Don't Buy, Don't Breed
Please Adopt a Bird in Need.

Why? The Refuge was established to provide a safe place for those parrots that, for a number of reasons, have to be re-homed, sometimes through just the unfortunate situations that sometimes arise. Most of them were loved dearly loved and cared for and when that was no longer possible, their companion-person did the most selfless act of kindness in finding them a good home…
Security in Numbers Some of our feathered friends come to the Refuge as an only companion to find a true connection, whether human or bird…
Friendships The Refuge is about gaining friendships between the volunteers who so diligently and lovingly help care for those birds waiting for that forever home, as well as establishing bonds amongst our many fortunate birds that reside here…

Katie - Umbrella Cockatoo

See all listings from The Refuge
Hi! My name is Katie. Contrary to what my name suggests, I am actually a male Umbrella cockatoo.

I was a very good boy in my previous home, but my Dad's work caused him to travel extensively and he knew that I wasn't getting the time and attention that I deserved. He made the difficult decision to bring me to live at the Refuge.

I love to play with boxes and just about any type of toy you give me. Walnuts are a favorite treat of mine, so if you plan to adopt me, please make sure to have plenty of walnuts on hand!

I am a bit timid when I first get to know you, but with some work, I can learn to trust you and may just end up being your very best friend!

What do you say? Interested in getting to know more about me? Contact the Refuge to learn more!

Thanks for stopping by!

Love,
Katie

Our Mission is Simple

To work in joint cooperation with all avian rescue groups to try and eliminate the need for rescue groups by educating the public about aviculture issues.  Until that is accomplished, we will provide a sanctuary for those unfortunate parrots that are in need of a home.
