Don't Buy, Don't Breed
Please Adopt a Bird in Need.

Why? The Refuge was established to provide a safe place for those parrots that, for a number of reasons, have to be re-homed, sometimes through just the unfortunate situations that sometimes arise. Most of them were loved dearly loved and cared for and when that was no longer possible, their companion-person did the most selfless act of kindness in finding them a good home…
Security in Numbers Some of our feathered friends come to the Refuge as an only companion to find a true connection, whether human or bird…
Friendships The Refuge is about gaining friendships between the volunteers who so diligently and lovingly help care for those birds waiting for that forever home, as well as establishing bonds amongst our many fortunate birds that reside here…

It is with a very sad and heavy heart that Karen and I must inform all of you of Coco's passing on 5/18/2011.  Please say a prayer as Coco now flies free and onto the Rainbow Bridge, she will surely be missed.

Enjoying a good head rub!

Hi there!  My name is Coco (short for Coconut).  I am a female Umbrella cockatoo from Florida.  My parents adopted me from Parrot Jungle when I was a baby and brought me to Illinois.  I lived with them until my favorite family member went away to college; I became lonely and so they decided that I needed a new home.

I talk a little bit and call myself "chicken."  I also respond to the name "noodle" and can sing a little bit of "It's a Small World After All."  My favorite thing to do is to snuggle.  I love a good head rub and a pet under my wings.  I don't always get along with other birds, and I do scream, but if you take me home, I would love to spend time cuddling with you.

Our Mission is Simple

To work in joint cooperation with all avian rescue groups to try and eliminate the need for rescue groups by educating the public about aviculture issues.  Until that is accomplished, we will provide a sanctuary for those unfortunate parrots that are in need of a home.
