Don't Buy, Don't Breed
Please Adopt a Bird in Need.

Why? The Refuge was established to provide a safe place for those parrots that, for a number of reasons, have to be re-homed, sometimes through just the unfortunate situations that sometimes arise. Most of them were loved dearly loved and cared for and when that was no longer possible, their companion-person did the most selfless act of kindness in finding them a good home…
Security in Numbers Some of our feathered friends come to the Refuge as an only companion to find a true connection, whether human or bird…
Friendships The Refuge is about gaining friendships between the volunteers who so diligently and lovingly help care for those birds waiting for that forever home, as well as establishing bonds amongst our many fortunate birds that reside here…

Star, one of the new arrivals at the Rescue at the end of October has been adopted on March 9, 2009!

I thought I'd send you an update on Star.  First of all, we've renamed her - she loves to pose for the camera and preen and she definitely knows what she wants and doesn't want, so we've named her Diva.  The name fits, and responds to it.

She's a happy bird.  She has her own birdie playground (as you'll see in the picture) and she is always excited to see us.  She has almost learned how to do the "wolf-whistle" and uses that whistle to call us if we're in another room.  She tolerates the cat and is getting used to the kitchen.  Usually when out of the cage she doesn't like to stray to far from it and flies back quickly but yesterday she flew to the kitchen counter and spent a little time hanging out with me.

The funny part is, she is nuts about Lowell.  Lowell likes birds but doesn't love them, but she gets so excited when he's around he has fallen in love with her.

Anyway, here's a few pics.  Thanks for all that you do - you are the best.

Our Mission is Simple

To work in joint cooperation with all avian rescue groups to try and eliminate the need for rescue groups by educating the public about aviculture issues.  Until that is accomplished, we will provide a sanctuary for those unfortunate parrots that are in need of a home.
